Tandi Williams

Hi I’m Tandi.

I’m an insight professional working at the intersection of culture, technology and research, and I love a challenge. Equally comfortable in pivot tables or at the podium, I navigate ambitious projects from concept to completion.

If you have a curly research question, or a complicated collaboration to deliver, please get in touch.

Trained in research, with a track record in the arts, and a knack for communications, I can decipher data to ensure you get the insight your organisation needs to shine.

I’ve worked with all kinds of creative organisations, from the opera houses of Covent Garden to government agencies, community theatre-makers and creative start ups, such as a boutique online gallery for emerging artists. Over 13 years and hundreds of projects, I’ve built a track record of delivering on complex briefs, turning technical mountains into manageable molehills and helping teams be informed and inspired.

I’m currently working closely with City Recital Hall, the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Performing Lines and Unlimited, the UK’s disability arts commissioning programme.

Until March 2015 I was the Research Manager for the $7 million Digital R&D Fund for the Arts, based at Nesta in London, where I advised on 52 year-long collaborative experiments to test how technology can shape exciting new products and services in the arts.

I previously managed the research team at the Australia Council for the Arts, producing major multi-disciplinary initiatives Art Facts and Connecting:// arts audiences online. And before that I spent seven years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where I learned how to love numbers and work hard to deliver value to clients. Whilst working in their Economics and Policy team I had the honour and challenge of working with a remote Indigenous community on an economic development plan, advising Sydney Ferries on investment in their iconic fleet, and exploring the value and impact of the World Cup on the Australian community.

I’ve delivered keynote addresses at events like Digital Disruptions, presented to the European Commission and appeared on panels to discuss technology trends, creative data practices and digital distribution. I also write for Arts Professional, Museums Journal, the Arts Marketing Journal and Native.

I’m a qualified Chartered Accountant, Associate of the UTS Institute of Public Policy and Governance, and a full member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society. I also sit on the Committee of the Sydney Arts Management Advisory Group, and the Register of Independent Assessors for the Ministry of the Arts.

Not everything I’ve tried has worked, but I’ve learned a great deal about the value of experimentation, importance of relationships and how to do research that really makes a difference.
